Best time of year to tour in Bangladesh

The best time to visit Bangladesh is during the winter season from November to February. “Winter” in Bangladesh brings clear skies and lower temperatures—think an average of 20-25°C (68-77°F) around the country.

From March onwards the days get rapidly hotter and monsoon generally arrives sometime in June.

Monsoon arrives around May or June and runs until September, during which much of the country is submerged. Though some Bangladeshis enjoy the monsoon season, it is not the best time for a traveler to explore the country.

• March to April. Months are generally considered as the ideal time to visit Bangladesh.

• October is yet another month of seasonal transition.

• November to February months mark the winter season in the country and are ideal for planning holidays in Bangladesh.

Currency in Bangladesh

The Bangladeshi taka (BDT) is the official currency. You can withdraw cash from an ATM Booth directly in Dhaka against your Duel Currency Credit / Debit Card, or exchange cash money at hotels or banks. All hotels and restaurants accept the credit card, but cash is still demanding to everyone as first choose. So, carrying some cash amount would be convenient.

There are banknotes of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 BDT (although 2 and 5 taka notes are rare).

Language to travel in Bangladesh

Bengali (or Bangla) is the official language in Bangladesh and is the 8th most-spoken language in the world.

English is not widely spoken in Bangladesh.  And even train and ticket numbers are commonly written in Bangla.  Outside of the cities it can be tricky to find someone to translate.  But those who can speak English (even if it’s patchy) always come forward to help.

Bangladeshis are hospitable and will try their best to help regardless of barriers to verbally communicate.

The most common greeting you will hear is the traditional Islamic greeting ‘Asalaam Aleikum’.  Hindus use the Bengali greeting ‘Nomoshkar’.  And admittedly it can be tricky to distinguish religion at first glance (not all Muslim women cover their hair, and some Hindu women do). But play it safe with a smile and you will be happily received.
